Apple Works on Micro LED Displays with Integrated Holographic Technology
2018-11-09

Apple has reportedly been granted a patent related to Micro LED display which provides an angle-of-view adjustment layer that involves holographic technology, according to an article by Patently Apple.

The patent application, titled “Display with Holographic Angle-of-View Adjustment Structure” describes that by adding an angle-of-view adjustment layer on the array of display pixels, the viewing angle for users is enriched. The angle-of-viewing adjustment layer may be formed from holographic structure.

Apple has acquired Akonia Holographics, a startup company that focuses on making lenses for augmented reality (AR) glasses earlier this year. Many believe that the acquisition has extended Apple’s development in wearable AR devices as Akonia Holographics possesses more than 200 patents on holographics systems and related materials.

In September, Apple has also published a patent application in Europe related to head-mounted displays which supports AR, VR and holographic content. Together with the newly grated patent, Apple may be paving the way to the development of wearable products adopting Micro LED displays.
